North Eastern Mar Thoma Centre, Jagaddal Mission (West Bengal):
This Mission Field in West Bengal is a unique mission field as it is the first mission field in West Bengal. It is part of the Mar Thoma SuvisheshaPrasangaSangham and two evangelists serve in this area. The mission aims to spread the Gospel amongst the villagers so that they know the good news of salvation through Christ. Other than village visiting we also have a Balawady, a tailoring school, medical camps, tuitions, awareness classes, youth fellowships, weekly cottage prayers, work among rikshaw pullers, VBS, etc. A Bengali worship on every Sunday also is being regularly conducted at the Centre from June 2013.The St. Thomas Mar Thoma School was founded in June 2004 by the Mar Thoma Education Society, Kolkata with the sole aim to provide ‘Quality Education with Minimum Fee’. The school now educates 190 students from LKG to class X. The Mar Thoma Balawady and Gram Jyothi Schools These serve as beginner’s school for tiny tots as they learn the first lessons of life, language and math. There are three units functioning in different villages in which we have three teachers, two ayas and about 110 children.The musical programmes and children’s cultural programmes convey the message and spirit of Christmas to around 4500 people. This financial year we helped many patients in the village in their need, conducting awareness programmes, distributing cloths, bed sheets and woollen clothes, Free medical camps, blood donation camp, etc.Rev. Aneesh Skariah has been serving as the resident Missionary and leading the present activities of the centre which are reported below. Four evangelist are serving in the villages who are Evg. Bijay Kumar Tandy, Evg. Samuel Mathai, Evg. Rafayel Gayen and Evg. Bishamber Mondal cover almost 24 villages to do the evangelical works.
